Yet 1366x768 is 683:384, a seemingly wild break from the standard. I know there are plenty of other resolutions all over the place, but 1366x768 seems to dominate most of the mid priced laptop world and also seems unique to the laptop world. Why don't laptops use 1280x720 or something else as a standard?
Well having a 1366x768 screen is about only 51% of the 1920x1080 resolution. So you'd have a huge different if your looking at pixels. Ideally I'd get the 1080P monitor to be a bit future proof even though 2k & 4k monitor's are almost affordable for the average Joe! This is not a duplicate of Why does 1366x768 resolution exist?. The actual resolution is irrelevant. I'm asking about the need for two resolutions that are very close in size. If the resolutions up for debate were hypothetically 1024x768 and 1020x768 (note the width), I would still be asking this question.
1920x1080 screen has twice as much pixels than 1366x768. A 1366 x 768 screen will give you less desktop space to work with and overall 1920x1080 will give you better image quality. For 15,6 inch 1080p is a must.
