The union of Brandenburg and the Duchy of Prussia in 1618 led to the proclamation of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1701. Prussia entered the ranks of the great powers shortly after becoming a kingdom. [3][4] It became increasingly large and powerful in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It is most often associated with the kingdom ruled by the German Hohenzollern dynasty, which claimed much of northern Germany and western Poland in the 18th and 19th centuries and united Germany under its leadership in 1871.
Though itself one of Germany’s many states, the kingdom of Prussia was comprised of: West Prussia, East Prussia, Brandenburg (including Berlin), Saxony, Pomerania, the Rhineland, Westphalia, non-Austrian Silesia, Lusatia, Schleswig-Holstein, Hanover and Hesse-Nassau.
After taking power in 1640 as elector (ruler) of the state of Brandenburg, he secured the independence of the Duchy of Prussia from Poland in the Peace of Olivia in 1660, setting in motion the eventual formation of the Kingdom of Prussia.
Prussia was a significant kingdom of Europe from the 18th-20th centuries and played the major role of uniting Germany under their leadership during the late 19th century.
From a small region in northern Poland to a German superpower, the Kingdom of Prussia served as the precursor to modern Germany.
