Bezel Emerald Cut Ring

A bezel is that slanted edge on the tip of a chisel. Angled edges on cut gems like diamonds are also bezels. The grooved ring that holds the crystal of your watch in place is called a bezel, too.

The meaning of BEZEL is a rim that holds a transparent covering (as on a watch, clock, or headlight) or that is rotatable and has special markings (as on a watch).

With a clear, faceted stone, such as a diamond, a shallow groove is cut into the bezel itself. The girdle, or widest part of the gemstone, is placed in the bezel, which is then pushed down over the girdle. The pressure of the bezel over the edge keeps the stone in place.
