The Charminar is a historic monument located at the heart of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state. Built by Muḥammad Qulī Quṭb Shah in 1591, the building was reportedly the first building in Hyderabad, his new capital.

Mohammed Quli Qutab Shah, the founder of Hyderabad, built Charminar in 1591 at the centre of the original city layout. It is said to be built as a charm to ward off a deadly epidemic raging at that time.
