Our first palm tree, a Sylvester Palm with 4 clear feet of trunk was installed by the local nursery on April 2nd. We hand-selected this tree a few weeks earlier and I think it's beautiful, but I'm concerned that it needs something to flourish. More water? Magnesium sulfate? We're in the Florida Panhandle, north of Panama City.

Burls, spherical woody growths on the trunks of spruce, birch and other trees, are commonly found throughout wooded parts of Alaska.
The evidence for this can be found in "trim lines" of old forestation and can be dated by examining the tree rings of the uppermost trees that survived injuries from earlier splashes. These trim lines show that similar, but smaller, waves occurred in Lituya Bay in 1853, 1874, and 1936. It is known that these were not all earthquake generated.
