PICC line placement involves inserting a PICC line into a large blood vessel that leads to your heart. A peripherally inserted central catheter, also called a PICC line, is used to deliver medicines and other treatments directly to the large central veins near the heart.

A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is a thin, flexible tube that's used to give medicine, blood products, nutrients, or fluids. One end is put through the skin into a vein in the arm and moved into a large vein near your heart.

PICC stands for peripherally inserted central catheter. A PICC line allows medicines, nutrition, blood products, and fluids to be given to your child. Blood samples can also be taken. With good care, the line can stay in place for months before it needs to be removed and replaced.
