Hunting Bighorn rams is not going to happen in my lifetime, barring some miracle. But I was eyeballing the license prices and noticed that ewe/lamb tags for a nonres are $240. Does anyone know what the odds are of drawing such a tag? I can't find it on the G&F website - only Type 1 licenses...
I shot a ewe 10 years ago and it was pretty good. Also have a hunt coming up so the issue of ram vs ewe is on my mind, you certainly hear more bad comments about rams. Good to get some positive feedback from @Valley1320, I can deal with toughness if the flavor is ok.
Agree you shouldn't be able to hunt AND gain a point. Montana allows you to gain points while you're on your 7 year wait after harvesting a ram because you're eligible to draw a ewe bighorn license, which uses the same points. So let's close that loophole while we're at it. The 48 hour closure should probably be shortened to 24 hours given the current communication technologies. Definitely ...
The ewe took a step, just as the rifle sounded, and I watched the bullet impact just behind her, sending the sheep up the canyon. As I turned around to head back to the boat, Joe pointed out another herd of sheep directly across the river from us, that included 2 respectable rams, both sniffing around the ewes.
Hello all, my son drew a ewe tag and I realize this may be his only chance to hunt sheep. We are no residents so it will be hard to scout. If anyone has any experience or contacts for access, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you all for a great site. DDJ
