Finasteride can worsen hair loss for some in the first 4-7 weeks. For a small proportion of men the drug has no benefit, and hair simply gets worse because it would have proceeded to get wors anyways. Outright worsening of hair loss due to finasteride is not common but please see your prescriber if you are concerned.
When you are taking finasteride and are losing hair, and if the finasteride works at stopping it, if you should stop the drug for more than 6 days you might then go back into rapid hair loss. Many people who do find that restarting it again does not help as much and some of the hair loss becomes permanent.
