I'm interested in floating the Sol Duc from HWY 101 to Leyendecker in my 8' pontoon boat. Is this section of the river suited to that boat?
The end of a floating flyline still can float lower than the main body of the line because the ratio of floating coating to core is lower in this small diameter section.
Since you already have the WF floating line for your rod, just go out and buy some RIO 15' sink tips one line size smaller than your WF line, cut 3'-4' off the front of them, cut your WF line 10' from the tip and add braided loops to the floating tip and the belly.

Has anyone ever floated this area? From what I've managed to dig up so far is it's about 15 miles and there is a campground about the 10 mile mark. What I hope to find is a map the shows areas for drift boat launch sites and take outs and camping info in this area. We are planning on floating...
Floating line coatings are of lighter- than-water consistency, so the thinner the coating becomes as it approaches the tip, the less bouyancy to support the core.
Alternatively, I'll do like I did when floating with my little 7' Achilles LT-2 and portage around the narrows - 3 trips took 45 minutes. Other than the narrows there is the bridge rapids on the lower river.
Hi All, I am looking to float the Wynoochee River in a pontoon boat in the next couple weeks. I was hoping to find out if floating the lower river is worth it or is the water too slow? Are there runs that can be fished and gravel bars? Or would it be best to start at the 7400 bridge down?
