I’m looking for a new reel to fish frogs. How much do aluminum side plates or a dual supported pinion matter? What reels do you recommend? I’m willing to buy from Japan if there are better options. I’ve been looking at some tatula and shimanos.

Having success with frogs comes down to having the right gear, picking the perfect frog for the situation, and making adjustments where needed to improve your bait's performance.

I’m looking at the Daiwa Tatula SV TW 150 and the Shimano Curado MGL 150 for throwing hollow body frogs and small to medium swimbaits/glide baits in the 1-3oz range…would one be better than the other? Is there another 150 sized reel that would be better than one of these two?

Popping frogs is a different story. Yes, I generate some strikes of the calling action of popping the frog, but most of the strikes are created off the walking movement of my frog trying to get away from the cover.

I am curious as to everyone thoughts on the best topwater frog. I usually fish lily pads and I tend to fish spro frogs since it’s a bit heavier. I prefer frogs about 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz. What’s your thoughts on the best frog in your opinion? Thanks, Thomas
