Hemlock Animal Hospital

Conium maculatum, commonly known as hemlock (British English) or poison hemlock (in North America), is a highly poisonous flowering plant and a nitrophile weed species in the carrot family Apiaceae.

Spotted water hemlock (Cicuta maculata) and western water hemlock (Cicuta douglasii) are two related native species that are both highly toxic, just like poison hemlock.

Hemlock trees are any of the 8-10 species of medium- to large-sized evergreen conifers that belong to the genus Tsuga of the subfamily Abietoideae. These graceful conifers are named hemlock because the smell of their crushed foliage is similar to that of a flowering plant called poison hemlock.

Hemlock wood is a type of wood gotten from a coniferous tree that is found mainly in North America and is known for its lightweight, straight grain, and slightly coarse texture.

Eastern Hemlock is a relatively fast-growing tree for hemlock and lives fairly long, though not as long as the Western Hemlock. It has a Christmas tree-like appearance with lots of bright green needle-like leaves densely packed into a pyramidal crown with small brown cones hanging from the branches.
