How To Use Retroarch

So i have several standalone emulators on my PC. I have many of them so it gets annoying to find a different one because there's so many! I was gonna ask, should i delete my standalones and just get retroarch? Is retroarch better?

Retroarch has made emulation more convenient for lazy people. Standalone emulators will almost always offer a better and more user friendly experience.

I do use quite a bit of homebrew including Retroarch which apparently runs the largest risk of triggering corruption (probably due to how it writes data). Is it still the same as ever, or are their methods in which it can still be used while avoiding corruption?
