Kia is smart, they make the throttle very touchy so you want to buy the car when you test drive it, and so it doesn't feel like the engine is struggling to move the SUV weight, that's fine. But if you want good mpg you have to pretend there is an egg in between your foot and the pedal. Then downhill lift off the foot to activate EV mode.
