Lhotse, mountain massif in the Himalayas on the border of Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It consists of three summits, the highest of which—Lhotse I at 27,940 feet (8,516 meters)—is the world’s fourth tallest peak.

Lhotse is the fourth-highest mountain in the world, towering at an elevation of 8,516 meters (27,940 feet). It is located in the Himalayas, on the border between Nepal and Tibet, and is part of the Mahalangur range, which also includes Mount Everest.

Mt. Lhotse is located in the Solukhumbu District of eastern Nepal, within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for housing the World’s tallest peaks. It is a part of the Mahalangur Himal range of the Himalayas and is situated just south of Mount Everest.

Lhotse stands at 8516m, making it the fourth highest mountain in the world. It is situated at the border of Tibet and Nepal. Its long east-west crest is located immediately south of Mount Everest, and the summits of the two mountains are connected by the South Col, a vertical ridge that never drops below 8,000m.

Lhoste means ‘South Peak” in Tibetan, and sure enough Lhotse lies south of Mt. Everest. Lhotse Summit is part of the Everest massif and shares the same South Col, a vertical ridge that links Everest and Lhotse. For this reason Lhotse, despite its great height, Lhotse Peak is not very prominent.
