Magikarp of all pokémon teaching you how to jump is chef's kiss. What I enjoy the most thus far is what I think the kids these days call emergent gameplay. Outside of the very beginning I have not encountered anything I would call a tutorial. For example you're taught once that you need to do shit for pokémon and they can learn you new stuff.
If they wanted to keep the Old Rod a Magikarp meme thing, that's fine, but the Good Rod never being available until like the fifth or sixth gym just sucked and severely limited the variety of water pokemon available for the first half of the games. It's not even just Water types that are limited at first.
