Oaks Integrated Care is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families living with a mental illness, addiction or developmental disability.

The subgenus division supports the evolutionary diversification of oaks among two distinct clades: the Old World clade (subgenus Cerris), including oaks that diversified in Eurasia; and the New World clade (subgenus Quercus), oaks that diversified mainly in the Americas. [15][25]

Oaks can be propagated easily from acorns and grow well in moderately moist rich soil or dry sandy soil. Many grow again from stump sprouts. They are hardy and long-lived but are not shade-tolerant and may be injured by leaf-eating organisms or oak wilt fungus.

Oaks are among the most prevalent tree species in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, gracing forests and parks with their majestic presence. Renowned for their elegant stature and sturdy hardwood, oaks hold a special place in landscapes.

Over about 56 million years, oaks have evolved into roughly 435 species that grow on five continents, about 90 of which are found in North America. A keystone species, they support more life-forms than any other North American tree genus including fungi, insects, birds and mammals.

Oaks thrive across diverse geographies, from temperate to tropical mountain terrains, spreading from Mexico to Southeast Asia, reaching to New Guinea. Numerous oak varieties native to North America, each adapted to a specific regional condition.

Oaks also provide habitat for birds, mammals, and pollinators. In addition, mature oaks produce acorn crops regularly, which are a favorite food of many kinds of wildlife.

Native to the Mediterranean, holly oaks have dark green leaves that resemble holly, hence the common name. Its large acorns are long, with gray caps that cover a third of the dark red to brown nuts.
