Does holding a non-law enforcement 1801 or Investigative assistant position (such as USCIS Immigration Services Officer or FBI Investigative Specialist) provide any advantage when later applying to 1811 positions?

I am hoping to become a police officer after I get my Degree in criminal Justice with my focus on policing. Anyways, they ask for any volunteer experience on the application. What can you suggest that looks good? Should I just volunteer for whatever comes up or are there things that look better than others? Thanks for your help.

I am not a police officer, but I thought I would share the policy on that with the Pennsylvania State Police. You can not have had a DUI charge within one year of filing an application and 2 charges within the past 10 years of filing an application.
