Re: Windmill Palm Seed Pods On thier own, Windmill palms Trachycarpus fortunei produce infloresence (flowers) not seeds. You need the presence of a male and female tree to produce seed. Seed will only form on a female tree when pollonated by a male tree. On very rare occasions both types of infloresece may appear on a single tree, thus cloning itself. Again, a very rare occurance. Hi All, I have two ponytail palms. The largest is quite mature and the small one is about 6 years old. Both flowered this year and the smallest / youngest, produced an enormous flower stem. Can this be cut off? Will the plant survive the removal of this flower head? It is hanging over a driveway and is being hit every time the truck goes in and ...
No, the flowers aren't as you provided. It may not even be a Pony Tail Palm, I've been lead to believe it may be. The flowering colours, as you may be able to make out, are very iridescent against the blue sky. I hope this helps someone, help me re: when and if it's best to cut those flowers to promote further healthy growth.
I am doing a volunteer project at the top of the tram here in Palm Springs California photographing the flowers and developing a guide for the other volunteers. This small plant has me completely stumped Picture attatched
