I feed two squirrels in my yard every day and a few months ago they started running up this tree with my baby tomatoes to eat them. Now a tomato plant is blooming from the dead stump in this tree.

Question: Can I plant grass over soil where a newly removed stump was ground out? Answer: We generally don't want to plant new trees or turf immediately over the top of existing stumps in landscapes.

Does anyone know of a eastern tree, suitable for zone 6, that has an interesting winter silhouette? I like the look of a black gum a few streets over, but I want to make sure that I do't over-look any other, possibly nicer ones, as this will probably be the last tree I ever plant. Thanks.
