Clearing refers to when a black poodle inherits whatever gene/s-causes-it and becomes blue or silver. It's also when a brown poodle inherits whatever gene/s-causes-it is and becomes cafe au lait or silver beige. Clearing is a "gain" of a different color. (ok, sure, by losing pigmentation but) The silvers of either start clearing usually by 6 weeks.
