So I have the standard Question. I wanna put a RPM spring in my trucks and i dont want to pay someone to do it. I want to learn how to rebuild my injection pump my self so i can do all of my own work. Make sure it is done right. so i figure anyone can take it apart and put it back...
EDIT, this post is a how to tare the pump apart, and some of the inner workings. Post #3 Is how to modify the pump. Maybe not explained, but I decided to grab some pics of my spare PS pump. Take out the outlet fitting on the pump, and the (2) 18mm bolts and the resivior should come off with...
Then if a lift pump upgrade is needed down the road, the Fleece in-tank dual pump system or a standalone external lift pump would work without changing the fuel filter system.
A common issue is a wire getting tugged loose or chafed during the starter removal. 2. ECM to Lift Pump Wiring: The lift pump is controlled directly by the ECM (no relay in some cases, despite the one you checked). The ECM sends power to the lift pump via a transistor, and a damagedwire here could cause your issue.
The vacuum pump can leak however, as it is lubricated by pressurized oil from the engine's oiling system. A vacuum pump seal kit can be had at your local cummins dealership for less than $10 (I think I paid $8).
To do so, you need to install an additional oil feed line from the engine block to the vacuum pump and also saw part of the throttle mounting assembly out of the way of the PS pump since the newer type vacuum pump is a little longer than the older style pump. It was pretty easy once I bought the turn key upgrade and started installing everything.
