a similar paste can be made from trout feed pellets. (this would work great on stocked trout who are used to it!) simply get some sinking trout pellets, add a little boiling water, cover for a while and mix it up, hey presto-cheap bait.
My neighbor had a trout hatchery around Sandy Lake-Utica. He allways lost a lot of large trout each year because they don't spawn out. He always said they needed to re-absorb all the eggs.
