Saturation Blood Work

Your blood oxygen level (blood oxygen saturation) is the amount of oxygen that's circulating in your blood. It can be measured with a blood test or a pulse oximeter.

Oxygen levels can be measured with a pulse oximeter, often placed on a finger or ear, that can measure oxygen saturation (SpO2) peripherally in the body. Usually, this is the percentage of hemoglobin molecules in red blood cells that have oxygen molecules attached in circulation.

Oxygen saturation, or O₂ Sat, is an important vital sign that shows what percentage of a patient’s hemoglobin is carrying oxygen. Hemoglobin, found in red blood cells, picks up oxygen in the lungs and delivers it to the body’s tissues while carrying carbon dioxide back to the lungs to be exhaled.
