Codepen is for simple stuff, the editor is bad, it doesn’t have auto-complete or format on save. I personally use visual studio code to do all my projects and just copy-paste into codepen to get a quick url to insert into my project challenges.

That’s different than the Pen Editor on CodePen, which only gives you the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript editor to work with. While that’s super convenient for many types of demos, it can be limiting. Hello there. Some things to note when using CodePen: CodePen does not expect any content outside the body tags. All meta, link, and script information must be put in the settings section of the HTML editor. You do not need to/cannot link the CSS in your HTML, if you place the CSS in the appropriate section.
