Spanking done correctly isn't abuse. Almost every person on this thread that was anti spanking and was spanked was spanked incorrectly. For those that were spanked correctly they didn't take issue with spanking once in a while. It's my opinion in general people get far too involved in what goes on in others homes.
However, a spanking should be given only in response to willful defiance to a clear, appropriate parental directive that the child understands and is capable of following.
Hello everyone. I recently got into a lively discussion about spanking, and thought I would ask people on here what they thought. Just to be clear I do spank my kids. Thank you for your input in advance.
Spanking in anger, I think everyone agrees, is not the right way to ever go about it. I would venture the opinion that pre-meditated also carries the potential to harm, psychologically. I'm not judging anyone. We all want what's best for our babies, and we're on our own paths to get it.

Outright 'wap-wap-wap-' spanking on a child that small isn't needed. NOW- what they are going to have to be careful of is not getting all bent out of shape at the parent who swats- one swat- the butt of a toddler reaching for the hot stove after being told not to.
My mom went a little nuts in the spanking Dept on me, doing it well into my high school years - of course, then it was more like beating or hitting any part she could get her hands on. But regardless, it didn't work - discipline techniques working being defined as teaching me to obey and respect her. Of course, grounding didn't work either.
